IN THE GARDEN Growing Bulbs In Pots [Newspaper Article] — Albury Banner Wodonga Express and Riverina Stock Journal — 28 February 1941

Sin I I THE : 1 I GARDEN I £ % t, Notes By 'Eoronia.' ? fh ? Growing Bulbs In Pots This week I shall offer a few suggestions in regard to the growing of bulbs in pots or bowls, either in soil or fibre.- II' growing bulbs in pots the best rooting medium is a mixture of two parts loam, one. part sane; and one part old manure. If the bowls are used) then fibre or peat moss is the niost desirable mate rial. The reason ' for this _is tliat it liolds moisture for a longer, period without becoming sour and, if kept moderately moist, provides an excel lent rooting substance for most bulbs. The most suitable bulbs for bowl cul ture are daffodils, hyacinths, tulips, freesias, grape hyacinths and lache nalias. Probably tulips ' and daffodils are the most popular. . ,* Do Not Leave Planting . ? Too Lato . One of the most important points in the .culture of bulbs in ..bowls is that planting of them should not be left too late in the season. .- Many bulbs lose a lot. of moisture . and deteriorate...
