In our issue of last week a corres pondent drew attention to the state of settlement in part of this district to the effect ' that from Hay to Booligal, and on to Hillston, the land is now in the hands of a few holders, and the settlement that took place under the 1884 Act seems now to be almost a thing of the past.' Unfor tunately this is only too true, and as the same state of things exists generally throughout the district, and more par ticularly in that part lying to the west of the Booligal, Hay, and Deniliquin roads. There 6urely must be some reason for it ; and more especially must the reason be a general one, when' we see the men who have kept possession of their holdings also in a most discon tented state, and in the majority of cases only too glad to sell out if s buyer would turn up. Believing as we do that the prosperity of this town is to a large extent dependent upon a prosperous c'ass of land holders being settled around it, we have advocated, and shall continue to do...
