TOWN AND COUNTRY SKETCHES. FRANKSTON AFTER TEN YEARS. [Newspaper Article] — Mornington Standard — 13 December 1890

TOWN AND COUNTRY SKETCHES FRANKSTON AFTER TEN YEARS. [By D.J.H.] No matter in what part of the world a person may be domiciled, whether in the thickly inhabited city, or in that paradise of which poets sing, viz. the sylvan groves, clear running babbling brooks, and free from all care and strife sort of life, "far from the maddening crowd," viz, a residence in the country; should that person (if he or she be gifted with ordinary perspicacity) be absent for a number of years from the place of their former residence, they will see many changes in that place, and in the social life of their aforetime acquaintaces, the scene changes so does the man. Ten years ago when I left Frankston with a hatful of intellect and ten and six- pence in silver, to seek in the wide world some fresher fields and more cheerful means of overcoming finan- cial difficulties I did not expect such changes in so short a time. How I once dreamt that I should return laden with a large amount of that essential comm...

SORRENTO. [Newspaper Article] — Mornington Standard — 13 December 1890

Business is very quiet, still very firm, people coming down, there is a good enquiry for houses. Three men named respectively George Morse, John Morse and. James Hall, were arrectcd by Constable Nolan on a charge of housebreaking auid stealing a box of clothes and a revolver. A son of Mr Allen met with a serious, accident on Monday, being run over by a dray, the little fellow is progressing favorably, no blame is attached to the driver. Mr. Cousin also   met with an accidcnt, his horse bolting and to save himself jumped out of the buggy and sprained his ankle. There was a good deal of excite ment on Sunday as to which of the two boats the " Ozone " or "Hygeia"   would come in first. There was a general feeling of satisfaction that the old boat was able to hold her own. and in my opinion the "Hygeia" will have to be better handled to beat her. the Ball in aid of the Alfred Hos- pital passed off very successfully.     The Continental...
