SIGNS OF IHE TIMES ,   The paper on hop-growing in the future in' Gippsland by Mr R. Lucas of Maffra and published in "The Gipps       land. Mercury" on, the 2nd. October reads like a prophecy, and the article published in the "Argus" ofthe 6thOcto- her giving a report of the brewers consulting: chemist on sample of Aus- tralian hops in London, is a testimony of the correctness oft the views of Mr. Lucas, The report on the Victorian portion that was tested, is very encour aging.
