The Coming Elections. Great excitement prevails in all parts of the colony over the approach ing elections. The principal place of interest is naturally the fling Division where the great light between the leaders of tbe opposing pnrties is pro gressiup. Both of the candidates (Mr. Reid Bnd Mr. Barton) arc confident oi victory, and tbe supporters of each ara very sanguine. The first hatch of nominations of candidates was made on Saturdiy. Nominations were received in 16 elec torates, for which 33 candidates were nomiualed ; 16 of these are followers of Mr. Burton, 11 of them Ministerial isU, while 6 declare themselves Inde pendent. In two electorates the federal candidates were returned unopposed, viz , Mr. F. Clarke for the Hastings and Maclea;, and Mr. J. Hoy nee for The Murray. Fires. An alarm was given at the Bowral Fire Station on Wednesday night that ' Mount Gladstone ' -v»s on dYp, and a numtir of tho firemen with the ppgii.e in charge of OaptHin Moses Jones responded promptly to the call. Their services, however, were not required, as the fire proved to be only ft number of burning logs in the vicinity of the house lhat was reported to be on tire. Another call was made on the Bow ral Fire Brigade on Friday. The bell rang at about 1 30, and the engine was quickly taken to I. he scene of the tire — Mr. Slack's residence, Woodbine street — but fortunately there was very little need for their services. The fire switued to be located near the chimney, which hud been on fire. Smoke was issuing from under the galvanised iron, but there was no hlHze visible.
