FOOTSCRAY COUNCIL • The ordinary meeting of the Footscray Council was held last Monday evening, when the follow ing councillors were in attendance: The Mayor (Cr Bell). Crs Harris. Drew, Johnson. Jenkins, Pearce. and Shillabeer. The Mayor had a busy night in the chair, and it was only with difficulty , that , he- kept "some of the councillors in check. Several desultory discussions took place, councillors sometimes speak ing several times on the same sub ject, and bringing forward matters which should have be':! brought before the public wor.v committee. The sitting was a fairly, lengthy one. At its termination, those assembled in ihe Mayor's room drank the health of Mr Chas Wal ker, who recently returned from a trip abroad. To revert to the business of the council, arong the letters received was one from Mr D. A. He said it was no use the doctor ordering milk from the Institute, unless the ordtr was sent through the town clerk, The order was then sent by the town clerk to the Institute and was then sent back again to Footscray. SHORT ROAD TO ' YARRAVILLE. GUTTING DOWN NICHOLSON STREET HILL A letter was received by the Footscray Council 011 Monday evening from Mr J. Leonard, desiring the construction of Nicholson street south through to Hyde street.. Cr Johnson—\Vait till we get the new loan. Cr Sliillabeer—This is a mat ter for the south ward. Cr Johnson—The south ward has no money. Cr Sliillabeer—I do not knowj so much about that. We should nxake an effort to cut down the hill. The south ward members should ask far a re port. Cr Harris—This matter has been, before the Council year after year, only to be deferred. It' ir time we took this work into, consideration, especially now that the bridge has been completed. Cr Jenkins said he would take the hint thrown out by Cr Sliillabeer,, and woulSi ask that the surveyor subm t a re port as to the cost of levell ing down the hill.
