CATTLE.. 1331 Oattle yarded to a large attendance of buyers, amongst whom were a couple of purchasers for export to West Australia, who bought very heavily of prime bullocks and cows, competition therefore was extremely brisk, and prices showed an advance of 10s to 15s per head on last day's rates, the rise being more noticeable on best qualities, and best beef (alive) may be quoted at 15s 6d per 100 lbs. The Riverina Lambing Season. The lamb-marking returns this season for the Riverina are the best they have 'had for years. At Table Top 10,560 lambs were marked from 13,270 ewes. Ewes mated with Leicester rams gave the best returns, the percentage being 87, and this cross is rapidly coming intu favour. The Lincoln ram cross returned 74 per cent., and the pure merinoa 79 per cent.

Australian Produce in England There's a good deal in this item from the London correspondent of the ' Sydney Morning Herald ' if you can see it : — ' The continuous arrivals of dam aged parcels of frozen meat and rabbits from the colonies may result from ' unavoidable causes.' But there are not a few expert receivers and inspectors who place blame on persons. It is insisted that the trouble occurs through what some would describe as carelessness. ' What is the actual cause of the too-frequent delivery of damaged colonial frozen meat we do not propose to even assume. We don't know. But the delivery injures very badly the sale of even sound meat. The increasing activity of the sanitary inspector, because necessary, will at tract more public notice than is ' de sirable. The butcher has little scruple and cares not if he can profit. He can and does ' fake up ' the joints ; but when meat is seized at hio shop and magis trates inflict a fine, customers learn that tons and tons of Australi...
