FAIRFIELD THEATRE PICTURES. One of the funniest things seen on the screen is "The Haydeeds," to be shown to-night. It shows mum, dad and the family from the country, and the laugh they create does one good. "The mnys tery of the Double Cross" will advance a stage. On Wednesday next "The circus of death," with very exciting incidents, and "'Stingaree" serial will head the bill. OBITUARY   It is with regret that we record the           death of John R. Duncan, of Lower Heidelberg-road, Ivanhoe, which oc- curred on Monday last. Apparently in robust health for his years, he was sud denly stricken down three weeks ago, and as he failed to respond to medical treatment, serious consequences were   feared from the first. Born at Bulleen 66 years ago, Mr Duncan had spent the whole of his life in this district and at             Berwick. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, when a represen- tative gathering followed his remains to their last resting place in the Heidelberg cemetery. The Rev. J. M. Fairfield's Protestantism, \DDRESS BY ARCHIDEACON HINDLEY. The Fairfield Hall was packed on Wednesday evening to listen to an address by Archdeacon Hindley, under the auspices of the local branch of the Protestant Federation, "to protest against the disloyal utter ances of Dr. Mannix and other pre lates." The meeting opened with the National Anthem. The Rev. J. Wor boys presided, in the absence of Cr. Mlay, who sent a telegram from Rush worth, where he was speaking on the referendum, wishing the meeting every success. The Rev, Long of fered up prayer, and there were other clergy presenL The chairman said they stood to gether for liberty, and to organise and safeguard their higher interests. STRAWBERRY FETE. To add to the funds of St. Jude's C. of E. Sunday School, Alphington, a very successful striawbecrry lete was held at the residence of Mrs. T. Adams, Hleidlelbherg-road,. Alphing ton, on . Saturday afternoon and cvening, the 24th ult. The fete was opened by Mr. J. S. Adams. The Rev. C. P. Lee introduced him as being Alphington's oldest resident, who. always took a great interest in the welfare of the clhurch. After a few well-chosen remarks, Mr. Adams declared the fete opened.
