KING PARROT CREEK. [Newspaper Article] — Yea Chronicle — 5 May 1892

EDTG PAMROT ORZEL (FrROM OUR RR cESPOxDEaarr.) TIE holidays are at an end here and the festive season has passed off smoothly. The dance on Election night proved to be very enjoyable, although the committee were bitterly disappointed when they found the mnsician did not intend to come, they having taken special care in engaging Mr. Doody, the Yea Balndmaster. It is a pity people cannot be made to keep their promises. However, a messenger was sentto borrow a musical instrument from a neigh boring farm, so after a little delay a start was made, MJr. R. Balmer discoursing excellent music. About two pounds were cleared out of the social. I might mention that the hat fiend made his appearance on the scene; one of the fraternity went as far as "shaking" a hat and planting it in the adjacent bushes, but the owner unearthed it. I-wonder if the individual blushed when he saw his ill-gotten plant sprung. I think not. When returning from the Yea picnic, on Easter Monday night, a party, consist...

The Yea Chronicle. PUBLISHED EVERY THURSDAY. THURSDAY, MAY 5, 1892. THE CHRONICLE, ITS READERS AND ADVERTISERS. [Newspaper Article] — Yea Chronicle — 5 May 1892

PUBLISHED EVERY !THURSDAY. THURSDAY. MAY 5, 1393. TE CE.ONICOL, ITS RzAzERS STD ADVEfTISEZS. To-DAY the CHrosICLE practically enters upon its third year, for although its first issue appeared on the 24th of April, 1890, for convenience of book-keeping subscribers and advertisers have been charged from the lot of May. A newspaper feels the pinch of hard times just as much as, perhaps more than, many other undertakings, and it has no reason to complain if it receives ordinary consideration from its subscribers and ad vertisers. The CImsooSCLE has received a full share from a large number, but from scores it has had so far nil. This state of things cannot be permitted to go on, and it is as well to say so in the plainest language. As stated on a previous occasion, there is neither a gold nor a silver mine in the section of land on which the CIOSNICLE office stands, and sovereigns are not to be picked up as readily as wooden types or brass rules. Wages have to be paud, paper has to be p...

THAT GATE TRAP. TO THE EDTOR OF THE CHRONICLE. [Newspaper Article] — Yea Chronicle — 5 May 1892

THAT GATE TRAP. TO THE EDITOR OF THE CHRONICLE. SIR,-Is that gate near our worthy Station- master's residence intended to keep the rabbits out, or is it inded to be a convenience for the public? I saw an unfortunate passenger by the train the other night struggling to get his luggage through it, and it is just as well that the architect of that gate did not hear the strong language he made use of I do not myself believe in strong adjectives, but there are occasions when nothing else appears to suffice to give utterance to what we feel within ut, when strugging with gate-traps, man-traps, or any other kind of traps.-I am, &c., LOOKER-ON.

NEWS AND NOTES. [Newspaper Article] — Yea Chronicle — 5 May 1892

AEW3 AND NOTES. THE fifteenth Parliament of victoria will be sworn in on Wednesday next. THE Kileore Free Pres. appears to be very confident that-Mr. M'Kenzie's return for Anglesey will be upset on various grounds. TuERF. is some difference in the Cabinet as to when the Stock Tax should be intro duced. Tihe constituencies showed in an unmistahahle manner that they want it immediately, and the Government should be compelled to make it the first business of the session. Me. Her, the dfeated candidate, intends petitioning the Elections and Qualifications Committee against the return of Mr. M'Kenzie. There;are several grounds of objection, including double voting, bribery, persons voting who were unnaturalised, late opening of polls and several gross irregu larities in connection with the whole election. Mr. Hunt's friends are urging him to proceed with the petition.-Kiilmore Adrertiser. A WELL-DESERVED compliment was paid to the Directors of the Yea Dairy Company on Saturday, Mr. E. S....
