An aggregate of 74,813 bales were offered. Competi tion was very keen for wools showing fine quality. Japanese, French and German buyers were keen operators. An excellent clearance was effected yesterday at prices on par with (he opening rates. Scourer wool may be quoted as selling In owners' favor.

This did not last long, however, as to-day (Thursday) it has turned quite warm with promises of rain. The stock movements for the week Include:—1600 wethers from Strath more to Longreach trucks, inglis & Panning owners, W. J acobs in charge; 108 bullocks from Strath ftnelDa to the trucks, WiHcox & Newell owners, W. Bopf in charge; 1280 wethers from Glenroy to trucks, ,W. Davis owner, C. Armstrong in charge. . The stock crossing over the Long reach reserve for the month of June were—48,862 sheep, 1164 cattle and 90 horses.

Longreach Items. —oOo— An inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the recent fire com menced before Mr. R- Curtis, P.M., ob Tuesday. Sergeant Hansen con ducted the proceedings. Altogether 25 witnesses were examined, these comprising all the people who were burned out. The evidence given by all ot them went to show that they knew nothing whatever bow the fire started nor di5 they know ot any suspicious circumstances. *The In quiry adjourned sine die. An Inquiry was commenced before Mr. R- Curtis, P.M., Into the cir cumstances surrounding the • death ot Arthur Nicholson whp was found dcpyl on the Strasthdarr road. Only two witnesses were examined, and they could throw no light on the matter, only they looked upon the occurrence as a case of suicide. There are several other ' witnesses to be examined yet. An old resident, Mt. Jtohn Con way, passe^ away in the hospital on Monday last from pneumonia Tfls deceased followed the occupation of a carrier in the early days, but of late year...

SOCIALISM V MONAJBCHSSM SERIOUS RIOTING* IN GERMANY. Berlin, Wednesday. Grave bloodshed and rioting Is re ported at Sommerschemburg, near Madeburg and Singebaden. Thirty persons were either killed or wound Bd. A Socialist deputation demanded the poBBesslon of a Monarchist flag Dying on Count GrelBhtaUs' /castle at SommerchBemburg. The household replied with rifle fire, killing seve ral. A mob of 30,000 then collected and besieged the castle. Armed police ar rived, but the mob overpowered them and afterwards stormed the castle, the steward whereof was put to a terrible death. .All males in the household were murdered - Similar scenes occurred at Sing enbaden, where ex-officers machine gunned a mob which stormed Mon archist houses and lynched the oc cupants.

' His Honor said the parties could not be expected to answer the sum mons until they knew what redaa tion was claimed. He adjourned the matter until Monday to give time for the Government to qmend the apfli cation.
