J. Morrisy, manager of .- the Woman's Co-operative Laundry, Boui-ke. and a man well known in toe town, called on Mrs. Toobey, a shop keeper, on Friday, anil was served with a glass of gingerbeer. Morrisy, without taking the drink, Said :j " I saw that man on the verandah; he's in the hack now." Mrs. Toohey re plied : " No, he is not; he had a drink and went right away; I haven't seen hitn since." She then walked from the shop into her bedtoom. She had jnst entered the room when she heard two quick steps behind her. She half-turned her head to ascertain the cause, andthpn heard the report of a firearm in close proximity to her.
