SNOWTOWN RACES. [Newspaper Article] — The Kadina and Wallaroo Times — 16 February 1889

StfOWTOWN SA.CBS. ^ > The Snowtown annual races were field on Wednesday, and were fairly attended, although not so largely as on some former occasions. A special train -was dupatcbfld from Wallaroo in the morning, and carried* large number of thoBe who favor tbe sport. There was also a. fair, sprinkling of visitors from Balaklava, Blyth and the surrounding agricultural districts, bat Clare was not nearly so well represented aa at any former meeting held by the club. The day was hot aod dusty^ and altogether about as disagreeable ,aa it '< well could be. Most of the events brought out good fields, and there were some excellent finishers, although the favourites were considerably out of it. Simon Pure was made a favourite for the maidens;' but this was chiefly owing to the fact <>f. his ownership, Mr Ferry being somewhat renowned for surprises. "HONOR TO WHOM HONOR IS DUE." TO THE EDITOR. [Newspaper Article] — The Kadina and Wallaroo Times — 20 February 1889

"HOtfOB TO WHOM HONOR IS DDE." TO THE EDITOH. Sie,-I was delighted with reading in your issue of 24th November, 1888, of the very successful social ten dered to Mr Ren 'ell as Mayor of Kadina, and though he had not been long amongst you when I left Kadina I saw sufficient of him to feel sure he merits all the praise accorded. If there is any one thing more than another that I feel plea* sore in remembering, it is of the part I played in securing the Corporatioo of Ksdioa. And that it is a leading Cor poration is due to the fact that the Mayor's seat has been occupied by such a succession of able and competent men. But I must confess to a feeling of dissap pointment at my name being entirely igupred. Mr T. :H. Hall cannot hare forgotten the fact that he and Mr Jos. Bails called me aside on a certain Wed nesday just after the one o'clock bell had rung, and told me they were in a " dead look" with the Corporation business, and asked if I would consider certain matters, and attend a mee...
