Australia's Financial Position. IT ) student of politics could lay down the statement which Mr Fisher road at the opening of Parliament on Wednesday, with out reflecting that, as Treasurer, he has been very fortunate. Whilst he held office from 1910 to 1913, the cumulative effect of a long succession of good seasons gave him a rovonue which ad vanced by leaps and bounds, and at the expiration of the Braddon clause gave him more millions. When be assumed office in Soptomber last, the financial out look waa gloomy. Great Britain traightway lent him £18,000,000 Since September his expenditure haa exceeded his estimate. Thero might have been trouble; there would certainly have boon n pinch, but again Groat Britain comes to the rescue and offers an other £10,000,000. So Mr Fisher finds himself possessed of a purse fi led without effort of his own, and faced by an Opposition which unhesitatingly puts country bo fore party.
