For Love of the Game is no-hitter by Deanua Symoski features editor Sure, we can identify. You wake - up hung over and you're already laic for practice. You look around and realize the girl you gol drunk waiting for never did show up—and no. there are not any messages. Then the owner of the team you've played for more than half your life drops by lo tell you he's sold il and Ihe new guys'.' Well, they think you re too old to play and they want to trade you, but you don't wanl to go. And, to top it all off, said girl finally calls to tell you she's moving to London because after all these years, she realizes you don't need her. Yeah, it's gonna be a long day. It's gonna be a long movie, too. Over the years, baseball Hicks have been very good to Kevin Coslner, so when the script for For Love of the Came came along, I'm sure it looked like a home run. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a no-hitter instead. Costner stars as Billy Chapel, a middle-aged pitcher for the Detroit T...

Freezing at 98 Degrees [Newspaper Article] — Behrend Beacon (1998-2010) — 1 October 1999

Freezing at 98 Degrees by Mike Frawley managing editor I should have known that things were not going to turn out good when my fiancee started a sentence with. "Guess where we're going?" And I was right. 98 Degrees has to be the absolute worst concert I have ever been to. First of all, whose bright idea was il to have an outdoor concert in Erie.' Jerry Uht Park is a nice place for a baseball game, but a horrible place for a concert. Erie has the worst luck with weather in the world. The promoters should have expected it to rain no matter what day they picked to have it. And of course, Erie came through. It rained all day long, alternating between a light drizzle and heavy downpours all throughout the show. Yet some idiots were in line at 8:00 a.m. in shorts and tank tops. And because of the way they let people into line and into the gates, they still ended up with horrible seats. I was in line at 5:00 p.m. and I ended up with seats where I could see ihe show perfectly...damn...

The race to the millenium, but not the race of the millenium [Newspaper Article] — Behrend Beacon (1998-2010) — 1 October 1999

The race to the millenium, but not the race of the millenium Out of Bounds One year ago, the nation was in awe. Suddenly two new men defined athletics and heroes. The playoff race captivated fans, pulling them right in the middle of the race w ith lliein. Races came down to to Ihe final game with Americans finally put baseball at the top ol their priorities. Baseball was once again America's Pastime. This year, the excitement settled. Americans now hold homeruns parallel with such regularities as held goals in football, fouls in World Cup soccer and profanity from the mouth of the Jets' Keyshawn Johnson. The drama ol homeruns can be compared to the decreasing fascination of the slam dunk over the past 30 years. At lirst. it was tun io see. But now, the frequency that it is done just lakes away from the drama. I. quite frankly, gel sick of seeing Shaquille O'Neal think he is on lop of the world, making a shot in a basket lhat hangs inches above his outstretched arms. And, n...
