YOUNG FOLKS . [Newspaper Article] — Farmer's Wife — 1 November 1907

YOUNG FOLKS . BY ^ E DITH . R AYMOND . Pear Young Folks : Your response has been so cordial arid hearty that I am sure you enjoyed the good stories in the October-number as much as I did , and will be eager to hear who had the largest number of votes . Every story had its friends and in many cases good reasons were given for preferring one or the other . Bill y Roy , in his valentine story , received the most votes ; a good many girls thought it-was so natural , the fountain pen , therefore , goes to him . Ella Persons is second on the list with Pocahontas th ird , arid they will receive their prizes . The unfinished story was finished by a , great many of you . It required a lively imagination to work out a plot that would bring in the Indian , the Mexican , Bruin , and the traveller , together with the horse , the mountain ravines , and the objective point—the friend s ranch ; but your ingenuity seemed , to be equal to the extraordinary demands made upon it , and our hero reached ...

MVC . Tir . IC . MC ,. [Newspaper Article] — Farmer's Wife — 1 November 1907

MVC . Tir . IC . MC ,. It does seem as though the motto of the Mystics that met with Minne A . Polis on the evening of July 5 th was Go for The Gopher , after his vociferous speech of declination for candidacy to an office two days previous , but they paid no attention and it has gone so far that he feels it his bounden duty to answer the call of the Krewo and provide for the winter months as is the habit of one of his race . This much , friends , we appreciate the task set before us and will endeavor to fulfil our duties with your kind as sistance . As our President says in her message , ask questions freely . The editor is here to render information as is in his power to give , and to obtain through these columns the consensus of opinion among the members on any subjects that may come up . Everyone should profit by Kappa s good suggestions . While the convention is not really essential to the life , of the league , at the same time we must all work for increased attendance and mak...

POULTRY POINTERS . [Newspaper Article] — Farmer's Wife — 1 November 1907

POULTRY POINTERS . H . A . NOURSE , Editor Thanksgiving turkeys should be dry picked . The scalded ones do not look as nice or keep as well . Plenty of yellow corn will fatten a healthy fowl or chick without the trouble incident to confining the bird . If you have good poultry to sell , why not advertise it in The Farmer s Wife . It is worth more than market price and will sell for more . Do not keep over any but healthy , vigorous stock , whether It is old or young ; for unhealthy , weak or decrepit fowls are never profitable . A duck consumes more food than a hen but the food required by the duck is much less expensive . Whole cracked grains should not be fed more frequently than four times a week . A healthy , vigorous , well-built , purebred young male is worth five dollars of anyone s money to run with a flock of mongrels . The improvement in next season s chicks will be a surprise . The longer you keep the surplus males and females which you do not intend to keep through the w...
