For a long time it has been evident that the Texas Pacific Company had abandoned all idea of building its railroad to the Pacific Ocean, and whatever Ea Mcrn terminus the South ern Pacific has had in view it is now clear enough that this company will build o farther east than the Rio Grande and there unite with the Texas Pacific. In recent conversations in this city Judge Underbill gave expres sion to this purpose of the company. He said the Central Pacific Company (which includes the Southern), beinga .Pacific Coast organization, desired to confine its system of roads to the Pari fic side, Tid did not care to build to the Atlantic Coast, provided they could have as lavorable nrivileces for through business on Eastern roads as they were willing to extend to Eastern companies over the Southern Pacific. From various "Western sources it is given o...

rr.-1 pi i it 111 I , if I J i r 1 i j J. ' ! .f!l I t f The Citizen. SATURDAY. - DECEMBER C. 1S79. Could. It appears as though the millenium were coming sure. For when the Southern Pacific and Texas Pacific lions and lambs begin to lie down to gether there must be a vast change in condition of things. Yet whatever may be the outcome of things the news of the day certainly points that way. Jay Gould, " for his own amusement," as he says, is manipulating railroad matters with the Iron Mountain, Mis souri, Kansas and Texas, St. Louis and San Franciaco, Denver Pacific and other lines which he seems to keep in his vest pockets, that there is great danger that he may be able to secure a through line to the Pacific all to himself, while the other roads are hes itating.
