FFRR1IARY 19B6 SACHSF SFNT1NFI PAGE 23 Boy Scouts Go Places Sachse Boy Scout Troop 12 took advantage of the beautiful weather in January to go backpacking and camp in the Timber Trails region of Lake Texoma. Scoutmasters Scott Dillard and Eldon Gordon led the troop through several camping and backpacking skill areas as each , £ member seeks to raise his rank ^toward the coveted Boy Scouts of America EAGLE AWARD. Steve Pearson, Steve Cooper and Sean Langton have successfully com- pleted all requirements for LIFE SCOUTS and are presently working on their individually chosen and ap- proved community service projects towards their EAGLE AWARDS. The goal of Troop 12 is to assist and allow the individual development of each member by providing oppor- tunities through camping and pursuit of skills and standards as set forth in the Scout Handbook. Many activities and good times are planned for 1986. To get information about joining the troop, contact the library or a boy scout. Meetings are...

Weekly Market Summary Tuesday, 11:00 EST D.J.I.A. 1519.27 January 14. 1986 "TIME FOR CAUTION" Hollywood at its best couldn't have dreamed up a more dramatic script than the one produced by the stock market last week. In classic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde fashion, the stock market left everyone gasping and guessing as to which of the two faces it showed is the real market. Broad market looked like a mine field. What happened appears quite clear. Yes, a correction was called for as excesses had become substantial and a big drop in the bond market provided a good ex- cuse. However, we would guess that some 30 of the 40 Dow points lost can be laid right at the feet of computerized sell pro- grams by the arbitrageurs. The extreme volatility these games have created in the market do provide big potential profits for a few but they also further weaken the public's confidence in the stock market. The ...

In requesting the $233 million fuel charge reduc- tion, the company asked the PUC to decrease its fixed composite charge for fuel from 2.79 cents per kiIowatt-hour to 2.46 cents. The lower fuel charge per kiIowatt-hour will save the average resident- ial customer about $45 per year, about a 4.9 percent reduction compared to what their bills would be under the present fixed fuel charge. NURSING BOTTLE SYNDROME Allowing your child to go to bed with a bottle can result in a con- dition referred to as "nursing bottle syndrome." Nursing bottle syn- drome occurs when a bottle containing a sweetened liquid - milk, formula, fruit juice, sweetened water, or soft drinks - is given to the infant frequently, especially before the child goes to sleep. When your child eats or drinks sweets, his teeth are attacked by acids for at least 20 minutes. While the child is awake, saliva tends to carry away the liquid. However, at bedtime, saliva flow decreases and the liquid tends to pool around the teeth for long periods, bathing the teeth in acid resulting in serious decay. This condition may adversely affect not only the child's ability to eat, but also his appearance and develop- ment of permanent teeth. Do not substitute a pacifier dipped in honey or sugar si...

PAfiF 4 SACHSE SEWTINFI MARCH 1986 VOTE for JIM BECKER for CITY COUNCIL APRIL 5th. A Councilman who: — is prepared to face Sachse's rapid growth, — represents the citizens of Sachse, — has no conflicts of interest, — has planning experience in the City and in industry, — has a solid understanding of the City's current problems and its future potential, — has extensive business experience that can be applied to City business. SACHSE'S MOST IMPORTANT PROBLEM The city is in a period of rapid growth. The population of Sachse has tripled since I moved here in 1982. Managing this growth is the primary problem that will face the City for the next decade. We need to plan for the future, improving city services and maintaining adequate controls on development within the City. Today, several of our city services are working near, or even beyond, full capacity. We need to improve these services while keeping our tax rate at an affordable level. Particularly critical are the water and street sy...

MARCH 1986 SACHSE SENTINEL PAGE 1 * HOLDEN for MAYOR Let's face it. you deserve more than you've been getting. You deserve to look around your neighborhoods and see more for the taxes you pay. You deserve a more aggressive strategy to attract new businesses to reduce your tax burden. You deserve to have more responsive, open-minded leadership. My overall goal as mayor will be to give the people of Sachse more of what they rightfully deserve. While serving on the City Council, on the Planning and Zoning Commission, on citizen committees and in civic groups, I've been an active representative of Sachse residents. Sometimes I've been an initator. Sometimes a backer. Sometimes a watchdog. But I've always acted with your interests as my No. 1 motiva- tion. In the upcoming months, critical issues face you and me: the City of Sachse. The population boom we experienced in recent years was merely a prelude to the one we're about to encounter. Decisions must be made at the Council level to ha...
