FEDERATION. THE FEDERAL CAPITAL. [Newspaper Article] — The Blayney Advocate and Carcoar Herald — 25 February 1899

KE L-E RATION . ; THE FEDERAL C A P I iTA-Ii.' (B7 ALEX. WILSON) - I The location of the Federal capital having been fixed within a certain restricted portion of New South Wales, the question t now is, ' What is the best si to available within the prescribed limits ?' As to climate : All tho existing capitals, with the exception of Hobart, ate situated ia more or less hot climates, and the Parlia ments are in every caso at their work be tween April and November. In order, therefore, to enablo tbe business of Federal government and Parliamont to proceed without unduly interfering with colonial affairs, a climate must be chosen suitable for residence during the months from December to April. I think this will be admitted on all hands. 1 As to. what advantages this site oilers for the foundation of a city, it will be evident at a glance at a map of tlis locality that it has every opportunity for providing a Water supply sufficient for a city pf tho first mag nitude ; a district Where m...

Special Council Meeting. A special meeting of. the Blayney .muni cipal council was hold on Wednesday evening. Preseut — the Mayor, Aldermen Bridgmaii, Russart, Shakespear, Watson, and Woodward. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and continued. The Mayor explained that his objeet iu calling the meeting was to decide something definite as to what they intended doing with tho windmill. Water was getting scarce, and the mill as it was at present was no use. ,He had asked Mr. Plank and Mr. Heed to examine the mill and send in an esti-nate as to the cost of putting it in re pair. He thought they might borrow from ths general rates to repair the- mill, as it would be' a good as.et ; and if ever a water rate was struck they could then pay the money back. The Council Clsrk then read letters from Messrs. Plank and Reed, the former stating that he would put the. windmill in thorough repair, except painting, for the sum cf £21. Mr. Reed merely explained that he had examined the well,...
