DISTRICT NEWS. Woombye. [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 25 March 1904

district'news. ? TV ? ;By Our Owx Correspondent) Woombye. Easter Monday is to be a j red-letter day in Woombye. j We have a real live organisa- ; tion hpre in the Foresters' So- j ciety, and they are not afraid ! tofgOjto trouble and expense! to majke their fete a success. - And why should they be ? Are ' not past successes well known ? j And encouraged therewith, ; they are adding to the attrac- j tions of the day by engaging ! the Foresters' Band from Bris- 1 bane. The full b^nd of 26 in- i struraents will be present, and i I do not think there will be j many parents who will deny j the youngsters the pleasure of j hearing the big bass drum and j the kettle-drum, and seeing j Robin Hood and Little John ?? with their Lincoln green and j banners flying. So come along, ! parents, and bring the young- | sters with you, too ; they will enjoy the treat. Last week a case of diph theria was 1 eported from Bud erum Mountain. The sufferer was a child of Mr. C. Ander son, and was taken to Gy...

A Humble Hero. [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 25 March 1904

A Hninble Hero, He was onfy a poor navvy. His nsnal place was at the top of a forming embankment, among the ' tip waggons. ' During the budding of a rail way in the North of England he was top man over the shaft of one of the tunnels which were being constructed on the j line. * ' j j Here he met with a gloriously i disastrous accident, and his j conduct should be emblazoned i in letters of gold upon the his ] tory of his country. He was j only a nawy, I say, and prob- I ably could neither read nor| write. ; ! The shaft was perhaps two j I hundred feet deep, with solid : i rock sides and bottom. His j i duty was to raise the trucks j which had been filled below, and run them to the tip, re turning them empty to his mates at the bottom. If 4 chain broke, or a big boulder fell off a truck, he had to shout, 'Waur out be low!' and the miners below crept farttier into their 'drives' and allowed the death dealing article to come down harm lessly. One unhappy day Bill's foot slipped hopele...

LAST SATURDAY'S MATCHES POSTPONED. [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 25 March 1904

LAST SATURDAY'S MATCHES POSTPONED. There were no association fix- i tures played last Saturday owing to j Jupiter Pluvius having taken com- \ maud of the forenoon, which is to be regretted, seeing that the crick- ' eters.' sunshine for this season is i fast dying. The ChromcleLands borough match was postponed in definitely, but by mutual agree ment the Nambour and Woombye clubs have decided to play on on the Woombye wicket. Great inter est is centred in this latter match, for should the Nambourites secure a win they will practically have s;e cured the premiership, whereas, should the tables be turned, the final result will still be in doubt, as both teams will have to meet again in the course of two or three weeks.

Robbery at North Arm. [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 25 March 1904

Robbery at North Arm. On Monday night last, be tween sunset and sunrise, a quantity of goods — viz., one bag of sugar and a case of groceries — was stolen from the North Arm railway station platform. The matter has been reported to the police, but so far no trace can be found of the missing goods, which were the propert}r oi Messrs. Atkinson and Broom field. However, we believe that suspicion rests in certain quarters which will, no doubt, be cleared up during the nfext few days. It :1s tlie intention of the residents at North Arm to petition the Railway De partment for more accommo dation, as at present goods put out of the trains at night have generally to remain where put until the following morning. Are you listening, Mr. Camp bell ?
