Week after week our ehieis and political lenders are getting into more serious embroilment. ; On the- 15tli nppe'aicd, as mentioned in my last, the attack of Sir James Martin on the Governor. It was thought, — and the .Chief Justice, as' now appeal's, shared in tlint opin ion, — that His Excellency would not consider it becom ing his exalted position to answer the charge in the Press. But on the 2tst the Herald published, at the request of Kir Hercules Robinson, the correspondence that ensued. HAY QUAKTER SESSIONS. (Before^ His Honor Judtre Forbes}. . This cbnrt oponed at 10 o'clock on Thurs day, 29th ult. Mr Murray, crown prosecu-. tor, and Mr Pring represented ;the bar. The local attorneys, Mr F. W. Reed and Mi' Arthur Raymond, appeared, George Walton charged with stealine: a liorso from ThomaB I?iercp, at Hillstoh, pleaded not guilty. Tho crown prosecutor stated that there vrero material witnesses in' the case who could not he brought forward in time for this court, and asked for an ad journmont. Granted. Prisoner was admitted ? to bail, self in £40 and two sureties in .£20 each. This was tho only case. His Honor in discharging the jury said he was glaid to eea so littlo criminnl business, it is ?a sign the- district is in a prosperous state and; people doing well, ' Daniel Holmes appeared and was publicly discharged. Sir,— Some time since the Grazier cnlled the atten tion of Road Superintendent to the obstruction that exists ou the Willnndra, at the point where the main rond to the Darling_ crosses the creek ; but it seems, thnt official or his superiors want something more than a newspaper paragraph to nrrest their attention. The creek nt the crossing place has been swimnble for the last fortnight, and upon the arrivnl of tho mail conch lit this place on Saturdny last, the driver and passengers not being in a humor tor a cold bath, decided to go a mile lower down the creek nnd attempt to cross on the dnm erected there. The present cumber of the Grazier is the one of which fifty copies are to be sent to the Commissioners who have charge of the Exhibits for tho Melbourne anil Philadelphia Exhibition. Several of these copiraarc to be bound up in n. volume for future reference, so that posterity may bo able to form some Idea of the people ninonfjst whom, nnd the country in which each news-, paper circulates, at least, bo far as the Press will convey that Impression. Our district, has not, it is true, much of a history as yet to record for futuro generations to ponder o\er, as it Is too young. It cannot be much, if anything, more than five and twenty ycarssince Riverina ' was taken possession of by tho white man, at least, tho part which lies between the towns of Narrandera and Wentworth, and the Billabong and Darling Rivera.
