CRICKET SATURDAY'S MATCHES NOTES by "ALIX" FOOTSCRAY v KLSTERNWTCK Footscray commenced a match last Saturday afternoon against Elsternwick. and the day's play was all in favor of the latter team, holding as they do a comfortable lead in the first innings. ; The locals' batting, with the exception of H. Emmerson, who scored 38, was very weak. H. Smith 10, was the only other double figure scorer. Jackson 8, J. Smith 8 and Simmons 4, were the only others of the team to score. SUNSHINE NEWS A general meeting of the above society was held at the Mechanics' Hall. Sunshine, on Tuesday even ing last, when there was a very good attendance of members. The main business conducted during the evening was the election of office bearers for the ensuing year. Among the retiring officials were Councillor H. Coleman of Kielor Shire, the energetic president for the last twelve months, whose ser vices cannot be too highly appre ciated, and secretary McCulloch who has spared no efforts in always providing a first class program for each monthly concert. Indeed it .. must be admitted that almost the whole work connected with the success of any society is cast upon the shoulders of the secretary. YARRAVILLE v. FITZROY FOOTBALLERS - - - • The Yarraville Cricket Club met the Fitzroy Footballers on Satur day last, and the match is now in an interesting position. Yarraville contributed 106, and the Fitzroy men have lost four wickets for 67, so that they yet require~~40 runs with six wickets in hand to lead on the first innings. This they may, or may not,' succeed in accomplishing. Yarraville won the toss, and, electing to bat, were all dismissed for 106. Ot this total, Harry Woods contributed a well made 31. Rocke, who went in first, came out ninth wicket down, scoring 13 in two hours. "Dick" Norris had put together 13, and was shaping well,"" when he riceived a hasty blow, and had to be assisted off the field. Fitzroy lost 4 for 67 in the time ' that still remained for play. Fred Goodwin was in good form with the ball, securing the whole four wickets for 33. The match gives promise of an interesting finish to-day.

FOOTSCRAY SWIMMING CLUB OFFICIAL MEETING - The racing season of the Foot- | scray Swimming Club was officially opened on Saturday by the Mavor Cr Bell , in the absence of the president, Cr Fielding, M.L.C ) owing to illness. A feature of the programme was the diving com petition, in which the swimmers dived from various heights. The work of of C. Esler and R. Sam son, from the high stage was most graceful, and the judges declared a dead beat. In the deciding dives Esler dived splendidly, and won by a point, R. Samson, '1 point handicap) was second, and V. Samson, (scratch) third. The novelty race provided amusement and H. Crouch won from I,. Cas tleton and B Bell. Chief interest centred in the team.-.' May race, in which each man bad to swim 50 yards.
