FOOTBALL. DUBBO F.C. v. ORMONDE F.C. [Newspaper Article] — The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate — 13 June 1894

FOOTBALL. Drmio F.C. T. Orhoxdk F.C. Ox Saturday these two teams played si match ou the Oval in the ltecrea t.iou Reserve, when there was a very large attendance, and the weather was perfect. The park gates were opon to vehicles, and many took advantage of this to drive in and obtain a close view of the play. The Dubbos went into the field very confident of victor}-, while the Ormonde team's supporters refused to entertain any idea of defeat; but as the event proved, the former wore in the right, as the Ormondes had somewhat the worst of a fairly opon game all through, being eventually beaten by 4 points to 3. There can be little doubt, how ever, that the better team camo out on top, their back division being fed most conscientiously, while the losers rarely attempted anything of the sort. Dubbo, losing the toss, kicked off from the eastern goal with the sun in their eyes, and following well up, peeured'a force immediately. The hall was again taken into very close proximity, and aft...

Throwing Open of the Land. TO THE EDITOR. [Newspaper Article] — The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate — 13 June 1894

Throwing Open of the Land. To ran Ennoi!. SIR-One of the arguments most frequently employed in opposition to the renewal of the Crown leases m the Central Division, even in part, is that by throwing open the whole of the land to selection, agricultural settle ment. will bo promoted, and the leasehold areas now occupied prin cipally for pastoral purposes, bccoroe covered with busy fairas. Bnfc the very same argument has been used again and again in support of almost every change in onr land system ; j ycfc the practical results have seldom, if ever, been in accordance with popular anticipation. Wlient he principle of survey before selection was introduced, its advocates de clared that it would aid iu covering the laud vvitli smiling homesteads and in largely developing the agricultural industry ; but it 1 painfully instructive to contrast the sanguine utterances with which th0 Crown Lands Act of 18G1 was supported by the after results as shown by official statistics. Instead , ?of th...
