GOLD PRODUCERS OF TENNANT CREEK [Newspaper Article] — Centralian Advocate — 15 November 1947

GOLD PRODUCERS OF TENNANT CREEK Since gold, whs first found at Tennant Creek the field has pro duced approximately 130,000 ozs. of gold valued at £1,300,000. Al though gold was mined here in 1922 it was not until 1032 that the field really opened up. At one time it was thought that gold was not associated with ironstone, but at Tennant Creek gold is found in the ironstone. It was once pre dicted that gold would not be found at depth on the field, but, the larger mines have proved richer ore at depth. There are relatively few companies operat ing on the field, most production being by parties. The richest pro ducers prior to the war were the 'Blue Moon'.' (3,288 tons for 12,074 ounces); 'Mount Samuel' (2,796 tons for 4,283 ounces); 'Red Terror' (320 tons for 976 ounces); 'Burnt Shirt' (942 tons for 1,265 ounces); 'Edna Beryl' (1,490 tons for 1,681 ounces); 'Hammerjack' (5,315 tons for 4,865 ounces). The 'Eldorado' Mine, the most developed on the field has for years been steadily prod...

NATIONALISATION OF BANKS TO THE EDITOR [Newspaper Article] — Centralian Advocate — 15 November 1947

NATIONALISATION OF BANKS TO THE EDITOR Sir. — I Have read with much in terest the report of a recent ad dress by Mr. ? M. A. Davidson, M.L.A., on the nationalisation of banking appearing in your col umns recently. His views warrant some respect, but as set out in the report one cannot altogether agree with them. Unless one were poss essed of some knowledge of the matter, at first -sight one would he inclined' to «. accept the report aa being a reasonable view of the pro jected legislation for the national isation of banking, but if Correct ly reported, Mr. Davidson's ad dress is based on some inaccur acies and distortion of facts. At the last election did Mr. J. B. Chifley in any way announce that the platform policy, upon which he was going to the electors, included the socialisation of in dustry* producton, distribution and exchange ? We are now hearing a good deal about this socialisation of industry, production, distribution and ex change, including the nationalisa tion of banki...

THE LIVE STOCK INDUSTRIES OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY [Newspaper Article] — Centralian Advocate — 15 November 1947

THE LIVE STOCK INDUSTRIES OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY On the completion of his work in the Territory, Mr. Max Henry, who recently retired from the ap pointments of Chief Veterinary Officer and Chief of , the Division of Animal Industry in N.S.W., has expressed some views on the Cattle Industry of the Territory which have been made 'available i'or publication by our own Chief Veterinary officer. ? ? Mr. Henry's insistence that overstocking may lead to disaster if not checked now, must receive 'the best attention of lessees and of the Administration too. His .remarks in regard to feitcing are also opportune, but unfortunately i\ growing tendency to remedy this glaring defect is held in abeyance by the total inability of progressive lessees to secure the requisite materials. Mr. Henry's contribution to the 'polled' versus 'horned' cattle controversy is a Very apt appraisal of the situation as it stands at present, and his insistence that intensive local re search is the only answer to th...

BOXING [Newspaper Article] — Centralian Advocate — 15 November 1947

The S.tuart Boxing Club is bounding ahead much faster than even its promoter hoped of it. There are over 50 members now training at the club, and some very promising lf-^is are among them. Jack Kei'in, Don Swanson, Arthur O'Toole are among the heavier class and appear to be coming along fine. Mick Goodall, providing he keeps up the training should be right among them in no time.. A newcomer to the club is Ackbar Satour who apparently knows something of the game. Among the lightweights and junior class is John McDonald, who we believe, has the profession al touch about him. It seems as if this lad has been taught a lot of the tricks before. Put into the ring with a senior he showed grand style by not letting the bigger lad lay a glove on him from start to finish. This means class, so watch out for Johnny McDonald later. Robert Morgan and Reg Fry are among the junior lads coming on with pi'actic'e. A point that should be brought to everybody's attention is (hat the Stuart Boxing Club ...

CLOTHING COUPONS [Newspaper Article] — Centralian Advocate — 15 November 1947

CLOTHING COUPONS ? ? ' ? O ? '' ' ? k The 'Director of Rationing (Mr. J. 1.5. dimming) said today that no expiry date had been fixed for current 1947 clothing coupons. This meant that they could be used in the next rationing year in conjunction with the new clothing coupons to- be issued at the end of this month. It would therefore not be necessary to hand in the clothing coupon card in exchange for new coupons. The name' panel of the food ration card only had to be handed in at issuing centres. Special 1945-40 clothing coupons which had been issued prior to 1947, expire on December 31.
