I told you , my dear children , that 1 wonld tell you another story through THE WESTERS RURAI ^ , which I take great delight in doing , to please all the little children who are readers of this beautiful paper . Bob Daily was a small boy living in the village of G—— . His parents taught him to do always as he was told . One afternoon as he Went out to get some wood , he thought within himself that he wished he lived in the country , where beach and maple trees grow , then he would have all the maple sugar he wanted . As he was picking np his wood , he heard a voice from the road , crying out : Bob , Bob , come out here ; I have got something to tell you . Bob threw down his wood and ran to the road as fast as he could , where he found one of his playfellows , Tom Bush , whose disposition was right the reverse from Bob . THE POULTRY YARD [Newspaper Article] — Western Rural — 19 September 1868

THE POULTRY YARD . Poultry Management . With regard to feed lug , our system of leaving chickens to shift for themselves , until such time as they are ready or wanted for the ^ bop is all wrong . No attempt at after-feeding will increase frame if the feeding of infancy has been disregarded . Again , the indiscriminate emptying of apronfuis or slevefuls of grain In a heap on the ground , whilst It serves to gorge the powerful , leaves chickens and weaker birds to starve , picking up here and there a grain , whilst sparrows and small birds have a large share in the feast . I must not occupy your valuable time with the details of what Is necessary for the housing of birds , and for their places of laying and incubation . It will be enough to sav that they should be , what they are seldom in farm-yards , namely , cleanly , convenient and attractive . A hen s nest should be on the ground , If there is no danger from rats , for laying and also for hatching ; and the roost should be low , ...

THE APIARY [Newspaper Article] — Western Rural — 19 September 1868

THE APIARY Cheap Bee Feeder . A correspondent of the American Bee Journal gives the following plan for making a bee feeder : Let me tell Ihe readers of the Bee Journal what kind of bee feeder I use , and how made . Take a common gill glass , or a half pint measure , fill it with honey or sugar sirup , draw over it a piece of coarse muslin , and secure it by a small India rubber band . Then open one of the holes in the honeyboard , and invert the glass or tumbler over it . The bees will suck out its contents at their leisure . Being air-tight , the honey or sirup will not pass down quicker than than the bees require . When use 4 on a nucleus hive , Invert a tin cup or small earthen pot over it , to keep away flies , wasps and bees . . A larger tumbler may be used when we wish to give the bees a larger supply of food , to serve in case of absence . Such a feeder costs only a trifle , and Is within the reach of all . Another correspondent of the same jour nal gives the following direct...
