She was startled by her guardian's hand upon her shoulder. "Courage, Grace we may be near- er than you think." went away at once to his study on the topmost floor, and Grace did not remind him that it would b...

^t 4fymA JjanrtiaL ST. CLOUD, MINNESOTA Thursday, August 12, 1875.will COMMON SENSE IN FLOWING. The editor of the Practical Farmer lias the following conuuon-eenee re- marks on the above subject:—"Teams drawing loads on the roads get a breathing spell on the descending ground, while in plowing the draft is the same from morning till night There is a certain number of pounds that a team can draw day after day and not worry them, but if more be added, even as little as fifteen or twenty pounds,'they walk unsteadily, fret and soon tire. No amount of feeding will keep them in condition. I have many plows in use on which it has been an easy matter to decrease the draft twenty-five-pounds, and if men had been drawing them instead of horses it would have been done. It must be plain to the farmer that every pound taken off from the draft of his plow is so much gained for his horses. It may be done in this way: "For any soil except sand or grav- el, use steel plows. Their cost is but little ...

cw j£tf• £lmil |f *nt%*l ST. CLOUD, MINNESOTA Thursday, August 26, 1875. A E O A S O W E A 1 We would urge upon the farmers of Minnesota to see that not a bushel of wheat is wasted this year. After cutting go over the field with a horse-rake and gather up the wheat that escapes from the binders. As soon as you get through with cutting go to stacking. Build large and long stacks. Send a team to town and buy good common boards and some dimension stuff Take two pieces of two-by-fours, say ten or fif teen feet long bore an auger hole through one end of each piece insert a wooden peg, to hold them together then lay them like inverted V's, over the stick then add another about about eight feet distant then another then nail your boards from one to the other, roof-fashion, commencing with the lower tier. Common boards, sixteen feet long and twelve inches wide, are better than siding, as they are too heavy to be lifted off by high winds. Stacks thus protected will remain dry through the hea...
