We learn. from the Leavenworth Times, that the great mass of the people1 in Kansas Fnstain the President; hut from every other source, we learn quite the contrary. By 'this time, Gen. Lane mast begin to feci that be has got his foot in it. Those pa pers and individuals .that have hitherto been hia most devoted supporters, are now most bitter' in their denunciations of Iricfl. The Burlington Patriot, edited by S. S. Pronty, who wan one of Lane's earliest and warmest supporters, and has never heretofore uttered a word in disapproval of any of his acts, now calls him a recre ant, and a traitor to his State. A targe meeting was held at Lawrence, at which resolutions sustaining Congress and de nouncing Lane, were passed. Says tbe Atchison Champion, in reply to an article from tbe Chief : "We believe tbe - President to be honest." That is a question npon which we take issue with tbe Champion. We do not believe tbe President is honest; and tbe above expression goes far to disprove tbe Champion's claim, that it is not preju diced or biased in favor of Johnson by personal or selfish considerations. No one can look impartially at tbe Presi dent's recent coarse, and believe him honest. An honest man is candid, straightforward, and stands by his prom ises.
