CZ) She gattjj gtovfew. ASTORIA, OREGON: TUESDAY 31 LV :l. 1S5 'EXTERTAiXMEXTJ" lincKKT visits of a semi-official na ture to our seaside city have been the occasion o some remarks, compli mentary anil otherwise, regarding our hospitality as a community, and our action as hosts and hostesses to guests. It may not be wholly out of place to say that the free entertainment of visitors is no part of Astoria's duties, and is not reasonably to be expected by any one. "We have hundreds of hospitable people here; gonerous cit izens who are pleased to see their friends and who make it as comforta ble for them as means and circum stances permit, as long as they choose to remain, but this "setting 'em up,' "free feed,'' "everything furnished,' is not to be looked for, and if sought may result in disappointment. A moment's reflection will conviuc3 any lady or gentleman of the impos sibility of having things so. Astoria has thus entertained nearly 3,000 peo ple this season and would gladly "en te...

A close watch will be kept on them. It was a center shot and a hard hit when...

ASTORIA, OREGON: SATURDAY Jl'LY 25. 16S5 Dispatches from cities all over the south, and from the numerous points on the Atlantic coast and the middle stales, show thai Grant's death is re ceived with universal sorrow. This is strongly marked in the south, and all the leading papers of that portion of the country comment editorially in the warmest terms of praise of the "hero of Appomattox." A strong desire has been expressed to the family that the burial should tako place in Washington, and efforts have been put forth to make Xew York the last resting place of the gen...
