ALEXANDRA P. & A. ASSOCIATION The ;lanuali meeting of, the above was held. on Friiay' last. Mr. Reg Payne (president) presided, and there. was a good attendance. Correspondence received included a copy of grant frtoml Public Works, allocating £170 for conveniences, etc. It was stated that the shire engineer had been interviewed regarding this matter (plans, etc.)., and the calling of tenders for the work. The engineer eiplained that he-was unable to -draw up the plans at 'prs cat, owing to pressure of other work. It was decid6d to tnake an offer of payment to the :engineer to complete the plans. The shire coundil is to be w;ritten to regarding the.g ;ant, and to ask that the proposed works be proceed ed with. Failing the commencement of the works at the scheduled time, a re-allocation of 'the grant is to be applied for. Service Convoy To Give Display The combined services convoy which is touring the State with a display of Australia's potential armed might will arrive in Alex andra on Saturday, April 28 from Yea. The convoy will bivouac over the week-end at Alexandra before leaving for Yarck and Merton on the Monday. `On the Saturday a static dis play of equipment from all bran ches of the services will be pre sented for the public, and in the evening open air hilms will be presented at the showgrourrds. This convoy is the largest of its kind to have left Melbourne, and comprises more than 40 vehi eles and 60 men. - ALEXANDRA Angling Club Eight members of the Alexandra Angling Club who visited the Wil. liamstown Anglers' Club last week end were treated to a splendid time, from both social and angling view: points. The party bagged over 100. salmon averaging about 2 lb., about 30 schnapper up to 5A21b., a large number of pike up to 4'2 lb., and nu. merous flathead. All voted it a great week-end, with a great lot of fellows at Williamstown. W. Gould won the trophy for heaviest bag, and R. Wil liams the award for heaviest fish. At the angling club meeting last Thursday evening a very popular member and keen angler was fare welled. We refer to Mr. Bon Collis, whb, proved himself a good sports. man..and good member during his short stay with the club. He was presented with a mulga wood writing set, and Mrs. Collis-received a mulga wood shaker set. JUBILEE TRAIN AT ALEXANDRA. 1 MANY INSPECT EXHIBITS. Alexandra was agog with interest on a high level last Friday, when the Centenary Jubilee Train paid a visit to the town. Enthusiasm was not confined, either, as it spread from the youngest of children to those of very mature age. Various local organisations and in. stitutions had their representatives to wercome -the train and its personnel, and there was a large contingent of children and adults from the surround: ing lcclity. The station staff had everything in readiness for the arrival of the: train, and the station looked spic and span. *Durihg 1the few hours it was at Alexandra the train was open for in spection by the public, and there were customers in plenty. The train is 'tour ing the .State as the Victorian Rail, ways' contribution to the centenary' celebrations, and what a fine gesture it is on the- party of the organising committee. ,Hospital Ball The annual Hospital Ball was held .at the Shire Hall on Friday night last. It can be truthfully said that the func tion was one of the best held here for many years A bright social atmosphere was made manifest and merriment pre vailed throughout, whilst the finan cial return will be splendid. Door takings amounted to £88/15/-, exclud ing donations. The.Hospital Auxiliary was a big factor in.the responsibility for such success. This body, headed by Mrs. A. L. Christie (president) and Mrs. S. Wilson (hon. secretary), together with members and a big band of work ers, carried out a splendid job in the supper room, as well as doing mag nificent work prior to the function. Mr. Eric Milroy was a capable M.C., and Creighton's and McAlpin's orchestras provided tip-top music for the programme of continuous danc ing. . -. Death of Mr. James Lawson . Whilst attending the race meet ing at Alexandra on baturday last Mr: James Lawson, an em -ployee at Ruoak Timbers collap sed. He was taken to the Hospi tal by ambulance but was found to be dead on arrival. The fune ral took place at the Alexandra 'cemetery on Monday last. Rev. McKenzie officiated, and Cum m- iing Culhane had charge of the funeral arrangements. Deceased who was highly respected by all'who knew him was aged 64.
