(This is written in the month of Rabbe S ; ool-akhur.) "After the usual greeting I am over joyed to tell you that the Deen-ool-Islam is flourishing, and that the day' will yet be ordered by al Khulr.ool.Baflzeen (the. best of protectors) when, all the earth will shout from their housetops the Hiaehad (belief) of the Faithful." MELBOURNE. Tuesday, January 23. [Newspaper Article] — Portland Guardian — 26 January 1877

MELBOURNE. WROKt OUR OWN CORRESNPNDENT. Tuesday,. January 23; In diseussing. the, prospects of war it seems to be quite forgotten that the armistice between Turkey and Servia does not expire until the let of Mhraall in this. year and that consequently there is little. prospect of the resumption of hostilities. until theo.etting in. of tihe Spring season, permits the easy progress of, calsaons and ambulances. Russia, whose policy neces sarily is that Turkey should make war on her so thalt the sympathies of the Western. astions may be thereby alienated, is not likely to. forget the. necessity of holding her hand for a time, and we have, there foreo, time to. prepare for eventualities. Our Government,.which.has bought up all the gun cotton in. Victoria, and Messrs. McLean. Bros. and Rigg. who are recog nised as the largest holders of powder,. are therefore likely to have their stocks in hand for a little time longer. At tile comn mencement of the spring we. may expect to. see Russian t...
