The Non-Advertiser. [Newspaper Article] — The Independent — 22 December 1914

The Non-Advertiser. Breathes there a Man with soul so dead Who never to himself hath said: "My trade of late is getting bad, I'll try another two-iucli ad." If such there be, go mark him well, ?or him no bank account shall swell, No angel watch the golden stair To welcome him a millionaire; The man who never asks for trade, By local lines or ad. displayed, Cares more for rest than worldly gain And patronage must give him pain. Tread lightly, riends let no rude sound Disturb his solitude profound. Here let him live in calm repose, Unsought by men except he owes, And when hedies, go plant him deep, That naughtmay break his dreamless sleep, Where no rude clamor may dispel The quiet that he loved so well, And that the world may know its loss, Place on his gjpve a wreath of moss; And on a stofle above, "Here lies A cbnmp who wouldn't advertise,(i

Deputation. FROM THIS MECHANICS INSTITUTE. [Newspaper Article] — The Independent — 22 December 1914

Deputation. FROM THIS MECHANICS INSTITUTE. Messrs. Geo. Walker (president), W. Carter J. Meadows and J. H. Tone (representing the Mechanics Institute) interviewed the Shire Council yesterday. The President made it very clear that for the future deputations would not be received unless the standing orders were conformed to by giving the proper notice. Mr. Walker said that the commit tee of the institute had gone into the matter of discussing the ques tion of a new institute. They de sired to secure the site opposite the Post Office, and a building worth at least .£2000 would be erected, and it would be creditable to the town. He pointed out in connec tion with the new Institute the committee had decided to make provision for the installation of two billiard tables iu order that young men should be enticed from the streets. This was being done as a progressive movement in the town. It was proposed to ask the Council who had a certain right to that block, to assist the committee in obt...
