Land Selection. Si'ice the New South Wales Lind Act of 1895 came into force, 86,000 acres in 2257 acre blocks have heen taken up in homestead selections. The largest areas being tbfl Wagaa, Hay, and Dubbo districts; and 3 192,000 acres in 1,035 blocks as settlement leases, the bulk of which were taken in Dubbo, Tani worth, and Morre dis trictx. At present the Department of Lsnds has available for settlement over 47,000,000 acres, of which 21,906,000 are dencribed as homestead lenses, and 32,000,000 acres as or dinary land.

Myra Vale. - The bachelors' ball on Friday nigbt was attended with all the success usual at these periodical functions. It was thought that the large number of victims at present 'down' with in fluenza would have thu effect of mili tating against the success of the ball, but, although a few old familiar faces were absent, their places seemed to be filled with as many new ones. The hall was beautifully decorated with Chinese lanterns, ferns, and crinkled paper, and as the floor was good, the music (in the hands of Messrs. M. and P. Bresnahan, violin and piano) excel lent, and the atmospheric conditions all that could lie desired for dancing, everything went merrily as a mar ringe bell." The catering was en trusted to Mrs. J.
