The Oriental Batk has purchased during the lust few days upwards of 600 ozs. from this golid.fold. It will be remembered that on several occasions we directed the atteontion of the government to the unproteeted state of those diggings. Our remos strances at last so far succeeled as to secure tile ippoiltment ofa commissioner and two mounted policemen, but as there are no quarters for these olilialson the diggings, they have been provided with temporary lodging at Mr. Roberts,' at Curra wang, a distance of twelve miles from the goll.field. SYDNEY. Wednesday afternoon. [Newspaper Article] — Goulburn Herald — 15 December 1860

SYDNEY. (From our own Corrospondcnt.) Wednesday afternoon. The polling for West Sydney is about to eloseas I write, but we shall not know the result until six o'clock. It is useless to speculate upon that. Dal ley has retired, and this will make is all tile more favourablo to the liberal cause, as the votes are less likely to be split. It is monstrous to think thatsuch personos as Dalglelsh, White, and worse than all, Berncenstle, should remain candidates, while a man like Dalley, after being persuaded to yield thus far that he would sit if elected, has to quit the field for fear of damaging the cause. IHowever, as I said, the fact of one retiring will make the chances for our shio the better. My belief is that Lang, Love, and Windeyer will be three of the sccessfull, and that the fourthl place will be between Dalgloish and Plun kett,. with best chance to the former. Dailey will probably go into the HIouse yet. You will have heoard that the result of the Parrsmatta election seems to...
