Morwell Agricultural Society. -e The preliminary!annual meeting of the above societ' took place at the Me chanics' Institute on Tuesday last. Ow= ing to the requisite notices not having been sent, it was resolved to adjourn the business for whici it was called until the same day fortnight. The first to break ground in the machin ery annexes is Mr Girdwood, the Lancan shire representative, who this Tuesday corn nionced workin connection with the fitting up of Crossley's Otto Gas Engine Exhibit This exhibit, wnich will he one of the most interesting in the machinery depart mont, will consist of 13 of the Otis Gas Engines all running together, and each one doing different work. The space occupied will be no leess than sixty feet, by thirty, and already the men are tearing up the flooring in order to build a solid foundation The.exhibit is being placed in the contem porary British and Foreign Machinery an nexe, which is not yet roofed in. Rapid progress is, however, being made with the work, and the annexe will be in a proper. condition to receive exhibits ore long. MOONDAZIRA -o Special Report. The Jubilee gold mining company have started to work in earnest. A splendid shaft is now being sunk on the site of the bore-hole in which gold was found. The shaft is 12ft by 4ft Gin, and di vided into three compartments. There is a sawmill on the ground to provide the necessary timber, and a depth of 70ft has been reached. The contractors hatr just completed the erection of a whip, which is rendered necessary to keep down the. water mak- . ing, as the company is not required to place an engine at the shaft until the water makes at the rate of 800 'gallons per hour. Mr. Dow has ascertained that there are sonme 3000 acres of the reserve abutting on the sea shore, ulon which vegetation is injuriously affected by the sea air and the timber of stunted growth.
