Thcro floenis to be a disposition on the part of the people of the East and a large number of members of Congress to adopt the policy of "no more land grants for railroads," and petitions look ing to that end. are being extensively signed in the East. There Is no doubt but that there is a widespread feeling all over the country against the policy of giving so extravagantly of the pub lie domain for Uic puposes and uses of corporations ; and there is no doubt but that this feeling has grown out of the disgraceful steals and corruptions of the past few years in the disposition made of rich land grants. When we stop to think of the enormity of the corrupt jobs that have come under our observa tion in Kansas, we cannot for a moment blame the people East or anywhere else lor raising the cry of "no more laud grants for railroads." When they are elect ed and sworn in we will be a city of the second claas. The officers to be elected are a Mayor, Police Judge, a Marshal and two Councilmen for each of the fonr wards into which the city has been di Tided by ordinance published else where. The general law also provides for the election of a Board of Education to be composed of two members from each ward. This election, however, is to be held under a special law passed at the last session. That law did not pro vide for the election of the Board of Ed ticatlon, and so it has been decided to work nnder the old plan until the next election. The voting places and judges of election are announced in another column. We suppose It is useless to urge oar people to turn out to this elec tion and see to it that good men are pot iu the various positions, as ...
