Victoria. ' Melbourne, Sept. 26. BARLIAMENTARF NEWS. CHILD MURDER. DEATH SENTENCE PASSED UPON EMMA WILLIAMS. In the Melbourne legislative Assembly on the motion of Piemier Turner, seconded by Sir J. Patterson the tariff resolutions were farther con sidered, ami the excite duties on wine, whisky and brandy were redueed from 9 to 8 per cent. Ot'ier spirit duties were reduced from li to 10 per cent. In the Legislative Council yesterday a Bill to enable the Government to advance thirty thousand pounds ?? to Municipal 'bodies, repayable in instal ments without interest was read a second time. Some members insisted on interest being charged. An extra s sntenee of six months' imprisonment has been imposed upon E nanuel Abrahams. Sentence of death has been passed upon Emma Williams, convicted of drowning a child on August 11.

BOXING CONTEST IN SYDNEY. BARKER ARRESTED. Placke received severe injuries in the fioht with Barker. He regained conscionsnesstor a short time yester day, but soon again became uncon scious. The doctor cannot locate the injuries, and will not therefore operate. Barker lias been arrested. From another source we leain .ui«u. the contest was virtually one of giants, Dick Barker, the Queenslander, stand in-* 6ft llin, and Plaacke, the- Dutch- man, 6ft 6in. Barker is vastly superior in strength and well scienced. He punished his opponent severely during the 13 rounds which were fought. Although overpowered, Placke fought ia the gamest manner possible.
