WHROO. July 6, 1868. [Newspaper Article] — The McIvor Times and Rodney Advertiser — 10 July 1863

(From our owon Correspondent.) _ July 6, 1868. There has been nothing noteworthy to report in mining since my last. The vari ops lots crashed yielded the usual average of the several claims from which they were raised. Mr Lewis continues to reduce payable dtone from Balaclava, and encouraged liy the tuccess ?f?his '%etnsfaive open cutting, h'e has just cothniencedi a somewhat similar, but more important work-the -piercing a tunnel from west to east,;ight throbigh the hill, or as far as he may continue to cut auriferous veins, of which there are a great iumber in -Balaclava. 1 This\is going to work with a spirit which, we trust, will find its meet reward in Jhe discovery. of some tbingveriy good. Grave-yard Gully, Sailor' Flat, Siberia, and Gravpl-pits are still .the ..centres of alluvial operations: rmeciino puddling is abiut being resumed at the last-mentioned plae. To watch the progress of the petty attempts of a little clique to injure this paper affords ' mot only amusement, but is positively in : strictive::it points out the true applica tion of Esops idea of the wolf and the lamb. If one excuse for injuring a cause cannot be made to look plausible, another is tried, and if the cause is too good to be injured by envy or malice direct, the only course left to the enemies of the cause is the satisfaction of making an attempt to injure its supporters.
