PUBLIC MEETING.   In pursuance of an advertisement, a public   meeting was held on Tuesday evening, at the Exchange Hotel, for the purpose of taking into consideration the advisability of memorializing the Government to institute an inquiry into the admin- istration of justice in this district,—and to appoint     additional magistrates for the said district. About   half-past eight o'clock, Mr. Falkner's large room was crowded to excess, and a great number of persons were unable to obtain admittance. Mr. GILBERT rose to propose that Mr. Thomas take the chair. Mr. HENRIQUES moved as an amendment, that Mr. Doran take the chair. MARSHALL.—Dismissed.   BRODNITE V. LOEWY.—No appearance of de- fendant.   MATHEWS V. SAME.—No appearance of defendant. RICHARDS V. HANSE.—Dismissed. SCANLAN V. SLATTERIE.—Summons for £10.   Plaintiff stated, that defendant had engaged a number of men to erect a fence for him, and that he (plaintiff) had supplied those men with provi- sions, defendant promising to pay for the same.       He produced a witness who corroborated his state- ment.
