DISTRICT NEWS. Finely. Wednesday. [Newspaper Article] — Jerilderie Herald and Urana Advertiser — 4 March 1898

DISTRICT NEWS. [Fnojr Our Own Correspondents.]- . Finley. Wednesday. - , All our inhabitants are still pursuing the even tenor of their way, yet from the moans and glum lopks of some of the local business men one would think there was not a 'fiver,' much less a '! tenner ' in the town to'fmrsuc. But this dolefulness is:merely a prelude to an outburst of-happiness and clean cloths which the people will soon take on, and Race Day (to-day) is, the. time when this jollity will. | commence. IE any Jerilderites wish to see sport for a million, then come down apd swell our show, ; Rain has fallen to the extent of 47 points in Finley since the 27th ult., which has done much good in the direction of : filling tanks and laying the insufferable dust. The rpads are in good order for travelling now, and a drive from Jerilderie. to Fit(loy covild be.un-. dertaken in comfort. Urana. Thursday. [Newspaper Article] — Jerilderie Herald and Urana Advertiser — 4 March 1898

TUj-ams. Thursday.. On Monday last we were favored with a slight fall of rain, 50 points being registered in Urana. The fall varied greatly, as Days dale had 40 points and South Goonambil 60, while North Goonambil had 30 points only. On the same day a man named Kane was charged at the local Court of Petty Sessions with attempted suicide. Ho was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, but was re leased under the First Offenders' Act on his finding two sureties, himself and another, in £25 each. In the evening at a meeting of the Odd fellows held in their Lodge Room, it was -3ecid(id to bold the annual anniversary ball of the Lodge on Easter Monday. The sports, as held for the past two years,, are this year leliininqted from the programme. Our Progress Committee shows no sign of vitality. As its members are elected an nually and there has been no election of a new committee for this year as yet, it is presumably Refund. This apathy on the part of the) residents of this town is in marke...
