Agriculture and Horticulture. SPRAYING FRUIT TREES. [Newspaper Article] — Mornington Standard — 9 November 1889

Agriculture ;and Horticulture. SPRAYING FRUIT TREES,..: The most important accession to recent horticultural practice is the spraying of fruit trees with arsenical poisons for the destruction of various insects. No orchardist can afford to. neglect this practice.. The codlin moth;circulio.canker worm, tent caterpillar, and. 6ther insects Ire destroyed by this operation, and some times tlree or miore species are killed by the same application. " Experient: hins shown the best methods of applying the poisons, and we now know that the essential points of the operation are to use a very dilute mixture, and to itpply it with great , thoroughness. London Piirple, when pure, is better than Paris Green, and is chmeaper. A poundof the Londoii Purple to 2.ii or :1i0 gallons of water' is sufficient. Apply it urtil the liquid drips from thl foliage in idll parts of the.tree. Thie aipparatus should he such that the liqiiid wi ' be. driven with 'great force inka fine spray.
