THE FORTHCOMING ELECTION. MR. KIDD'S CANDIDATURE. [Newspaper Article] — Camden News — 19 July 1895

THE FORTHCOMING ELECTION. MR. KIDD'S CANDIDATURE. The Camden School of Arts was filled to overflowing on Tuesday night, when Mr. John Kidd, Protectionist candidate for the Electoral District of Camden, delivered his political address. The audience, though a trifle noisy at times, was very good-   humored, and Mr. Kidd was frequently applauded throughout his address. The Mayor of the town, Alderman James Noakes, presided. The chairman, in introducing Mr. Kidd, said he hoped the audience would give him a fair and square bearing. He asked them not to interject during the course of the speech, and Mr. Kidd would be pleased to answer any questions that might be put to him. He felt sure that those present would , keep up the good name that Camden audi- ences had always enjoyed. Mr. Kidd — who was received with pro-   longed applause — said he was quite sure that the large audience would bear with him during his address, and particularly his young friends, who, in...

What a Land and Income Tax will do for the Colony Secretary National Association of New South Wales. [Newspaper Article] — Camden News — 23 July 1895

Wb&ifr I^nd and IncomQ'-Taz:will: do; ' ? fortke-Solonyv ^V'XM.XAM : Seoretedry'National'iiJs&boiation of New Sout^'Walea. ? A.& shown iu »? previous article, the proposed Land'nnd Income .Tax will act most prejudicially ujpon the land holders peraoually, by increasing as a rule their payment of taxation, and by greatly de« prociating- the value of their properties. But tho effect on ihe colony generally will bo even more ruinoua. This is clearly shown.- The depreciation in the value of property which must tollow the im position of the tax, will be immediately followed by a' partial' withdrawal of monoy lent on mortgage, and, aa: a Result, the operations of squatters, f'armbrs, and others must be restricted. Let ree show1 what I mean. Take the case of a bank.- It ha*, 8^,' £10,000,000 lent on landed security worth' £20,000,000. A!s soon as, the land tax- is imposed,- that security falls in value to tho extent of oonaiderably ovor- £2*000,000. No\v any prudent...
