THAT BACKACHE WARNS YOU. Do you realise what important work the kidneys do f Do you know (hat every drop of bloodflows through the kidneys hundreds of times a day f '=■ Do you know why t . To be filtered,—to have the im ' purities taken out. That is tlie great work the kidneys hare to do. They keep the blood pure—take ' out the poisonous waste and dis pose of it through' the bladder. It is this poisonous kidney waste which causes i gravel, backache, rhemuatism, lumbago, dropsy, and stone, when it is left in the sys tem by weak kidneys. A kidney and bladder medicine is needed to'help the kidneys throw off this poisonous waste. That is what Doan's Backache Kidney Fills are for. .They are solely for the kidneys and urinary system. They do one thing only, but they do that one thing well. They regulate the kidneys and bladder 'like ordinary medicines regulate the bowels. WA1KERIE SOCIAL LETTER. Waikerie, July 21. My dear Ethel,—Thank you so much for yonr delightful letter, it is always so welcome, and for telling ns what queer ideas some folks have about the social letters. They, seem the same in other places too. What ideas they must have—imagining that the editor writes them. Poor man! they cannot know how little, time he has for such trifles. By the way, do yon like the new. title of our paper? People think it does not differ much from the old. . We have had quite a iolly time this last week. Last Wednesday Mrs Stod dart, (our popular doctor's wife,) invited a number of young ladies to an after-, noon's amusement and tea.. About fif teen availed themselves .of the invitation and had a~ delightful time with competi tions, etc. Miss Berrytnan, our piahiste won a beautiful volume of Browning's poems, Which delighted the recipient very i much. REMARK SOCIAL LETTER. Renmark, July 21. Dear Barbara,—1 was very glad to see in last week's PiONESR that the stories under the heading " With Pipe and Book " are now resumed. "The Half Way Honse J\ .which appeared hi last .Friday's paper, is a fine tale, powerfully told. The writer's stories are -always much admired) so 1 hope we may see more of them; and I think this wish is echoed by most readers of the Pioseb«. Dances, as per usual,, have been the standpoint of the week's amusement. On Thwsday the - Oddfellows' ball was held in the Institute. . About 40 couples (as we' say in " Onld Oirland ") took the floor, and 'dancing was kept np " till quite early in the morning Plenty of pretty girls were there In smart frocks. Capital music.a good floor, and a first rate supper. Could anyone wish for any thing better ? WITH PIPE AND BOOK. THE CRIMSON BOAT. [FOR THE PIONEER.] [Newspaper Article] — Murray Pioneer and Australian River Record — 25 July 1913

THE CRIMSON BOAT. | * • i [For the Pioneer.] j They may not be successfully dis guised, those men who have been down to the sea in slips. You may frock-coat them, bell-top them, and bedeck their button holes with rose bads. It will be all the same, for no power on earth is able to erase <-Vip tang of the sea that has once gotten hold'of men. No such hall mark is upon the one-voyager or even the third jreaser,. and it's generally the nautical collegiate who walks with rollicking gait and is versed in more ribald songs than his mama wots: of. But, for real let me listen to one whose lines have been cast upon the waters for years, that run to de cades, whichalso run to the half centuzy. He—when time allows, and unholy inducement persuades, is worth hiring » * « « "Did he die* that man?" I asked, as I traced with forefinger thetxackof along and ugly scar upon myjcompanion's face.
