DEATH THROUGH= A -----PITCH lFORK, A. shocking accident, attended with fatal results occurred at Riddell's: Creek on Tuesday morning early to. a young man named John Gibbens. 26 years of age, who met his death through-a pitch fork descending fromi a hay stack and entering his hea, . Deceased was em ployed at Langford's farm, and at the time of the accident was 'engagel pitching from a platform to a stack biilder named James Carson, who left his hay fork on the roof of the stack while he stowed away some loose sheaves, and when suddenly turning round observed the pitchfork falling down the side of the:stack. ENTERTAINMENT AT THE' MECHANICS'. HALL. An invitation, dramatic and vocal entertainment was given by Messrs Benedict and Thompson at the Mechanics' on, Monday evening. Pretty flowers and green leaves decorated the building nicely and everything indicated plea santness. Amongst other guests present were Lady Clarke and party. Mis. Harding kindly consented to play the oveirture, and lent invaluable assistance to the vocalists by playing piano ac coinpaniments to their songs during the" evening.
