COMMISSION OF THE PEACE. [Newspaper Article] — Temora Herald and Mining Journal — 20 June 1882

COMMISSION OF THE PEACE. A. short time ago we' referred to the strenuous exertions which were being used to obtain the appointment, to the Commission of the Peace, of certain | residents of this district. We are gbd to find there are others of the Mine opinion as ourselves ton this point, as we still believe that if the ??Si) AnvkAinhnnntA hftd hi^n mada.' it would nave been one of the greatest .misfortunes that oould have befal.en the district. As our contemporary truly observes, the probity of persons ready to accept the honor ib not suffi ciently established in anomadio popu lation, thrown together by the force of fortuitous circumstances, to justify the Government m making the tip pointmentf. In the case of some who were prominently mentioned as likely to be appointed magistrates, not only was their probity insufficiently estab lished to entitle them to fitness for a ?eat on the Bench, but, in many respects, they were notoriously unfit for the position. We do not eay that the fa...

Original Correspondence. (TO THE EDITOR OF THE TEMORA HERALD.) [Newspaper Article] — Temora Herald and Mining Journal — 20 June 1882

Original Correspondence. (TO TEE EDITOR OP THE TEttO&A HERALD.) Sir,— Are you aware that the Temora Hospital has been for some time, aud .still is, without a matron, and two female patients Ijnng^therein. I can quits nndersUud a idea of a strange man, waiting upou and nirsing a sick womsn, is repulsive aud in. - deed indecent I don't know whether the subscribers to the institution, and particu larly those ladies who always are to the fore in collecting subscriptions, know of this or not, if they do not, they ought, so as to at once take steps to remedy this disgraceful state of affairs. 1 am sure the ladies of Temora would cot countenance anything so improper, but would at once, without any outside assist snoe, proceed to remedy this shameful (or shameless on the committee's part) condition of things.
