DISTRICT CRICKET STRIKING PERFORMANCES IN FOURTH ROUND OF MATCHES [Newspaper Article] — Benalla Ensign — 11 March 1938

DISTRICT CRICKET STRIKING PERFORMANCES IN FOURTH ROUND OF MATCHES In the fourth round of matches, which commenced on Saturday Slast, tho most striking features were the greatly improved batting -'.form displayed by the Diggers, and the repeated failure of Violet Town. The latter team is passing through a batting slump at prs ont, though their bowling still maintains its good standard, and they c ould only manage 51 runs on a perfect wicket on the Benalla oval a'gainst :Benalla. Ted Cleary, with 5 for 15, and Colin Robertson, 3 for 12, proved too strong a combination. By good bowling, however, they kept Benalla down to 118, Owen Andrewa keeping a good length i'n .taking 4 for 47,-whilst Charlie Lowe, who was also making a re appearance with his old team, scored 35 not out. Violet Town have done even worse in their second attempt, losing 3-wickets for 9, and appear well on the road to outright defeat. S A fine partnership of 53 by Don McKenzie and Kilpatrick gave th .Diggors a hearten...
