AH OLD CRIME. A very old crime, known as the Mary Vale murder, which occurred in March, 1874, (writes the ' Age') 1ms been revived by tha statement of a criminal in tlie Darlioghurst Gaol, in Be\r Somii Wales. The victims of ill.- murder were a Mrs Cook und a child which was born to her before sbo was married to Robtrt Cook a fanner, who resided near Moui.t Gambier, in Sju.Ii Australia. Mrs Cook's maiden name was Maria Langtey, and Cook bad been one of her early lovern, but she was in favor of a man whj betrayed and deserted her. Overlooking this iapse, Cook again sought to rnarry Muria Lang ley, ond on this occasion was accepted. Tl.e marriage, which ten k place nhorlly after, proved unhappy, Mrs Cook's name less child proving a never ending eource of recrimination on Cook's p«rt. Even tually Cook decided to emigrate with bis wife and her child to Victoria and settle in the Wiuimera district.
