BERRICAN SHIRE SUED. Claim for Damages Fails. In the Deniliqiiin District Court last week, before his Honor Judge Gibson, Joiin Langtry, of Finley, claimed £400 for dam ages alleged to have resulted from the neglect of the Berrigan Shire, to-keep a certain street at Finley' in proper repair. The in juries were sustained in October, 1911. ' Mr. Barrister Pyke. instructed by Mr. Nathan, appeared for the Shire and Mr. Mack, instructed by Mr. Loman for Mr. Mellion, appeared for the ulaintilT.. Plaintiff said that on the night of the accident the distance acros; the road between the fence and the gravel beam in Murray-street, Finley, was only 48 feet, but it was now 61 feet., He was driv ing a mare and gig on the night of the acident which was the first time he had noticed a drain pipe in Woolamai-street covered witn a layer of earth" eighteen inches high. COMMERCIAL. MELBOURNE, April 24. After an' interval of two months, wool sales- were held in Melbourne yesterday when the six firms of selling- brokers off ered some five thousand bales. There was a good attendance of the trade as sales are not being held in any other Australian cen tre this week, several inter State buyers were present. Prior to the sale, Dalgety and Coy. Limited, received a cable from their London office, relative to the third series of sales in that centre which opened on Tuesday afternoon. The cable referred to quoted the market very firm at the closing rates of the March series and results achieved locally yesterday prov ed this market to be .well up to present London parity and slightly higher Mian at February, sale.
