NEWS OF THE WEEK- • —On March 13 the Senate held its second day s session as a Court of Impeachment , the memliers of the House appearing in a b ? dy . Mr . Stanberry entered the appearance of the President , stating that Messrs . Stanberry , Curtis , Nelson , Black and Evarts were the Presidents counsel . , He asked a reasonable time for preparation for the defense , and suggested 40 days , citing cases to show that this wonld aot be an unreasonable time . After considerable discussion between the managers and the defence , and a private consultation by the Senatej a delay of 10 days was granted , and March 23 was fixed as the time for tbe President to file his answer to to the charges . —Attorney-General Stanberry has resigned , and his resignation has been accepted by the President , who temnorarily gave the office in charge of Secretary Browning .
