His reply to Governor lHamp ton's demand for the possession of the treasuity is a masterpiece of im.. pertinence. Ho rests his title as treasurer upon the declaration filed by himself, as canvasser, that he was elected, and he throws himself grandly upon the courts. Cardoza should be made to understand his place at once, and to know that he must accept, not dictate, terms.
