For Freedom and Nationality; SUNDAY MORNING, JUNE 8, 1802. TMtlroonr off the fllble against monarchic anil King. In an editorial some days ago we quo ted a violent denunciation; by Reverend Dr. Smitit, a Presbyterian clergyman ef Charleston, South Carolina, of popular Government. Undoubtedly Hie influence of a vast majority of the rebel clergy of the South it exerted against republican ism. ' In fact BCTcral of the leading reli gious denominations geem rivals for (ha rank of the established church of the Southern Confederacy. The idea of Jiving in luxurious indolence on a fat salary paid by the Government, is ex ceedingly agreeable to a black cloth hypocrito who pretends t follow the Ministry of the IJlessed Savior, not fjr a love of eoula, but for the love of sensual indulgence. Hence these corrupt hire lings are secretly working to overthrow free government, which they regard too favorable to free thinking, and tobringin a new order of things where the eecuhr arm could seize heret...

For Freedom and Natioaalitjr. w. . rm:iic:i:i, r.ditor. Watch litem. We are satisfied tint the leading rebels of this city design some mischief. For eome d"ays tbey bave been throwing out dark Lints about a rebel expedition on llurfreeeboro', and predicting the re capture of Nashville. They could not conceal tbtir delight at the capture of tmr scouts at lleadyville on Saturday, imitating in the tenderness and humanity of their comments their humane breth ren of Baltimore. There is not a shadow f doubt that the city has numbers of pie who send news by couriers every night to the guerrilla officers, who com municate in turn with their headquarters at McMinnville. The safety and peace tf the city imperatively demands, in our opinion, the immediate arrest and impris onment of a number of the most active and influential rebels amone us. The arrest ot the little fellows does no good, as it exasperates those arrested and ac tually emboldens the wire-workers be hind the scenes, who infer fr...

We liavoliad reported tons many cases of the inhumanity of the she-rebels, as they are happily styled. The Fayctte ville Ikvcille reports one instance, which we shall copy. It says: One of these that came under our own immediate notice while in Athens, Ala., it becomes our disagreeable task to chronicle. ' During the illness of one of our comrades, even when the hand of death was upon him, Lieut.
