Sutter, for their assistance in a sad occurrence that happened on her last trip up the river. I was passenger on board of this Steamer with my two children, when, about one hour after leaving Sacramento City, my daughter got frightened by the whistle of the Steamer, and losing her hold, fell overboard The alarm was given and the l'ilot came out on deck to see what had happened; the child floating down the river being pointed out to him, he immediately had the engine stopped. The Cook of the Steamer seeing the child, jumped into the riVer to save her, but the water being so cold, he was unable to make much headway, j and had to get on a plank which was thrown out to him, to save his life.
